Migraine

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Migraine

Migraine is a common disorder experienced as repetitive moderate to severe headaches; often on one side of the head. The exact cause for migraines is not clear; however, they may be associated with fluctuations in levels of certain chemicals in our brain. This leads to a mild swelling which presses the surrounding blood vessels and nerves producing pain. Migraines are often associated with symptoms like food cravings, mood changes, too much yawning or flashes of bright lights might appear before a migraine attack followed by throbbing pain on one side of your head. The pain often gets worse if you cough or sneeze.

Common triggers of migraine are listed below:

  • Emotional problems like anxiety and stress.
  • Strong smell, bright and flashing lights, or loud noises.
  • Hormonal fluctuations.
  • Certain medicines or medication overuse.
  • Foods like chocolate, cheeses, monosodium glutamate, fruits, nuts, fermented foods, processed meat, alcohol, and caffeine (or even caffeine withdrawal).

How can homeopathy help?

Migraine is considered a psychosomatic illness as it worsens due to emotional factors like stress and anxiety. Homeopathic treatment can help improve emotional coping mechanisms, thereby reducing migraines. Homeopathy reduces the intensity and frequency of migraines. Also, it helps to reduce the dose of other medicines prescribed, thus reducing the need for conventional medicines. While selecting a homeopathic treatment, the patient’s symptom; duration, frequency, and severity of migraine; and physical and mental state is considered. Migraine treatment can last from a few months to two years.
