Renal Calculi

Renal calculi or kidney stones are solid crystals present in the kidneys. At times, more than one kidney stone may be present and these stones may have varying sizes. These stones might be present in one or both kidneys. 

Kidney stones mainly occur due to decrease in the total quantity of urine and an increase in calcium, oxalic acid, phosphate, uric acid, cysteine, or xanthine content of urine. These agents are generally present in our urine but in low amounts, due to which they do not form stones. The most common kidney stones are calcium and oxalic acid stones. Medications like antivirals or antibiotics can also cause kidney stones. If you have kidney stones, you may experience symptoms like pain in the stomach or on the side, different urine colour or blood in urine, fever, chills, and vomiting; and pain while passing urine.
